See dozens of decked halls at nearly 20 holiday house tours in the St. Louis area

If you need a little holiday inspiration, dozens of generous and creative homeowners are decking their halls, getting ready to invite you inside. The holidays are the season for the area’s historic homes and house museums to shine, as well as many bedecked modern homes. Here are nearly 20 house tours to choose from.

Historic Florissant House Tour

Thirteen homes and historic locations will be open for tours, including a farmhouse where visitors can try roasted chestnuts, a four-room log cabin, and the Shrine of St. Ferdinand, which will show off holiday tablescapes.

Three notable St. Louis homes, decorated in holiday splendor, will open their doors for this peek into the past. The Campbell House Museum was built in 1851 and reflects the high opulence of the 1880s. The Chatillon-Demenil mansion was built as a farmhouse and was expanded and renovated in a Greek Revival style in 1863. Roswell Field, a lawyer for Dred Scott, lived in the Field House museum, as well as his son, children’s poet Eugene Field. Light refreshments will be served at each home.

Daniel and Rebecca Boone reenactors will visit the site of his former home to reminisce about winters past as thousands of candles illuminate the village and storytellers talk about past holiday celebrations.


Tour participants will ride a horse-drawn carriage at Elsah’s annual Home for the Holidays House Tour.  

Elsah Home for the Holidays tour

There will be 10 historic village homes decorated for the holidays and open to the public during Elsah’s annual Home for the Holidays celebration. Also open are a school house, the museum, the churches, shops and bed-and-breakfasts. Rides on a horse-drawn carriage are available for free. This tour is the main fundraiser for Historic Elsah Foundation preservation efforts.

Soulard Holiday Parlour Tour

The 47th Annual Soulard Holiday Parlour Tour includes seven homes and a Soulard souvenir. Those who do the tour will have a chance to buy reduced-price tickets for an evening Fête de Noël event at the Franklin of Soulard.

Deck the Halls of Glennon Homes

Four homes decorated by some of St. Louis’ top design teams and talented homeowners will be open for self-guided tours. This tour is hosted by St. Louis Homes + Lifestyles and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon, and proceeds benefit children cared for by the hospital.

Ten homes will be open for this year’s Hermann Holiday House Tour, with a trolley available for $5 to give rides to homes in the city limits. There’s also a Kristkindl Markt at Stone Hill Winery from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.. The Deutschheim State Historic Site in Hermann is hosting its own open house with demonstrations and activities from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and tablescapes are on display at the historic rotunda building at Upper City Park.

On one day, 20 historic homes, museums and private residences in the St. Louis area will open to show off their holiday finery, and caretakers will discuss the buildings’ history. Customize a tour to see Civil War sites, African American sites, French heritage sites and others.

This annual tour features five homes decorated for the holidays. For those who buy a ticket online, go to the Highland Emporium at 917 Main Street first to get your paper ticket.

Magic Chef Mansion Christmas Tours

The mansion built in 1908 for Charles Stockstrom, founder of the Quick Meal and Magic Chef Stove Co., is decorated for the holidays and open for tours. The 12,000-square-foot home has been painstakingly restored and includes original lighting fixtures and period furnishings.

The Hixon Middle School PTO is sponsoring this holiday tour that features 12 decorated homes, music from Hixon Middle School student musical ensembles and holiday-inspired activities. An online raffle is also part of the event, with tickets available for $5. 

Lafayette Square Holiday House Tour

Explore 12 homes decorated for the season in the historic Lafayette Square neighborhood. Ticket holders can enjoy carriage rides in Lafayette Park and trolley stops around the neighborhood. A holiday market on Park Avenue will be held Dec. 3-4, with Santa appearing Dec. 3 from 4-6 p.m. and the neighborhood’s annual tree lighting at 5 p.m.

Candlelight Stroll at Faust Historic Village

Stroll through historic homes at Faust Historic Village that are decorated for the holidays in eras from the 1860s through the 1960s. The village is a collection of homes and buildings from throughout St. Louis County that were moved to Faust Park in order to save them from demolition.

Westminster Place Tour

This event hosted by the Landmarks Association includes self-guided tours of five historic buildings along Westminster Place. Canned food donations will be collected for the Royal Vagabonds.

Wentzville Community Historical Society 4th Annual Holiday Home Tour

A driving tour leads to several decorated homes in downtown Wentzville open to tours. Afterward enjoy a free drink at Friendship Brewery Co., where you will be eligible to win a gift basket. This tour benefits the Wentzville Community Historical Society.
